Tour Itinerary

Day 1:Marrakech – Ouzoud Waterfalls – Aït Bouguemez Valley (Arouss)

Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech (around 08:00 AM), heading northeast toward the spectacular Ouzoud Waterfalls, one of Morocco’s most breathtaking natural wonders.

Upon arrival, enjoy a guided visit with a local guide (included). Stroll down shaded paths lined with centuries-old olive groves, admire the impressive 110-meter cascades plunging into emerald pools, and spot the playful Barbary macaques living freely in the surrounding trees. A boat ride at the base of the falls (included) brings you close enough to feel the mist — an unforgettable way to experience the power of the cascades.

After lunch near the falls, continue the scenic drive deep into the High Atlas Mountains, as the landscape gradually transforms into the peaceful terraced fields of Aït Bouguemez, famously known as the “Happy Valley.”

Arrive in the village of Arouss in the late afternoon, where you’ll meet your trekking team — licensed mountain guide, muleteers, and pack mules — and settle into a traditional Berber guesthouse.

Dinner and overnight in Aït Bouguemez Valley.

Day 2:Arouss – Sidi Moussa Granary – Timit – Tabant

After breakfast, lace up your boots for the first day of trekking through the heart of the Happy Valley. The trail winds through fertile farmland, walnut and apple orchards, and traditional mud-brick villages where Berber life continues much as it has for centuries.

Climb to the hilltop Sidi Moussa granary, a fascinating historic collective storehouse and sacred site, offering sweeping panoramic views over the entire valley. Continue to the scenic viewpoint of Timit, then descend through a patchwork of green fields and irrigation channels toward the valley’s main village.

Arrive in Tabant in the late afternoon.

Approx. 5–6 hours walking · Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 3:Tabant – Tizi n'Aït Imi Pass (2,900 m) – Ouzighimt

Today is the most rewarding challenge of the trek: the crossing of the Tizi n’Aït Imi Pass at 2,900 meters, one of the most scenic mountain passes in the M’Goun massif.

The ascent is steady and gradual, climbing through juniper-dotted slopes and high pastures where nomadic shepherds graze their flocks in summer. From the summit of the pass, enjoy magnificent views over both sides of the Atlas range — the green mosaic of Aït Bouguemez behind you, and the wild M’Goun valleys stretching ahead.

After savoring the summit, begin the long descent into the remote and beautiful Ouzighimt Valley, arriving at the peaceful village of Ouzighimt in the late afternoon.

Approx. 6–7 hours walking · Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 4:Ouzighimt – Taghreft – Imi n'Irkt

A wonderfully immersive day following the Ouzighimt Valley downstream, walking along the river that links a string of authentic Berber villages. This valley is famous for its vibrant daily life — villagers tending terraced fields of corn, wheat, apples, and walnuts, harvesting crops, and gathering wood, with women in the region’s distinctive traditional dress.

Enjoy a relaxed riverside lunch near the village of Taghreft, in the very heart of the valley, surrounded by orchards and the sound of flowing water.

In the afternoon, continue along the river to the village of Imi n’Irkt — meaning “the door of the gorge” in Berber — dramatically positioned at the entrance of the famous M’Goun Gorges. Tonight you sleep at the gateway to one of the High Atlas’s most spectacular landscapes.

Approx. 5–6 hours walking · Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 5:Imi n'Irkt – M'Goun Gorges – Aguerzegua

An early start for one of the most memorable days of the entire journey: the crossing of the legendary M’Goun Gorges, widely considered the most beautiful and spectacular gorges in the High Atlas.

The trail follows the riverbed itself — expect several refreshing river crossings as the towering rock walls close in, at times narrowing so dramatically that the cliffs seem to touch overhead. Walking shoes that can get wet are recommended for this unforgettable canyon experience.

Emerging from the gorges, pause for hot mint tea and lunch near a natural spring, then continue through a gentler landscape of villages and cultivated terraces to reach Aguerzegua in the afternoon.

Approx. 6 hours walking · Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 6:Aguerzegua – Magic Valley – Boutaghrar

Your final day of trekking leads through the stunning “Magic Valley,” famous for its striking rock formations, sculpted cliffs, and ever-changing natural colors — ochre, rose, and gold shifting with the light. This is one of the most photogenic stretches of the entire route.

The trail passes through orchards heavy with fig, walnut, and apple trees and a series of charming villages, as the mountains slowly give way to the softer landscapes of the Rose Valley region.

Reach the welcoming village of Boutaghrar by late afternoon, where you’ll celebrate the completion of your High Atlas trek.

Approx. 5–6 hours walking · Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 7:Boutaghrar – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast, say farewell to your trekking team and begin the journey by vehicle toward the Sahara, traveling along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.

Stop at the dramatic Todra Gorge, where sheer canyon walls rise up to 300 meters above the Todra River — take a walk beneath the towering cliffs, a favorite spot for climbers from around the world.

Continue east through Tinjdad and Erfoud, gateway to the desert, before arriving at Merzouga, on the edge of the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes.

In the late afternoon, mount your camel for a magical sunset camel trek across the golden dunes, watching the Sahara glow in shades of amber and rose from the top of a dune.

Dinner under the stars and overnight in a Sahara desert camp (private tent).

Day 8:Merzouga – Draa Valley – Aït Ben Haddou

Wake before dawn to witness a magical sunrise over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi — one of the true highlights of any Morocco desert journey. After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and begin the scenic drive west.

Travel through the breathtaking Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river oasis, famous for its endless palm groves, traditional Berber villages, and ancient kasbahs lining the riverbanks. Enjoy several panoramic photo stops as the landscape shifts from desert to oasis.

In the late afternoon, arrive at the legendary UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous ksar and the backdrop of countless films. Enjoy free time to wander its earthen alleyways and watch the sunset paint the ancient clay village in gold.

Dinner and overnight in Aït Ben Haddou or a nearby guesthouse.

Day 9:Aït Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After a relaxed breakfast, depart Aït Ben Haddou for the final leg of your journey back to Marrakech.

Cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), with scenic stops along the way to admire sweeping panoramic views over valleys, peaks, and traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides.

Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable 9-day High Atlas and Sahara adventure — from waterfalls and Berber valleys to legendary gorges and golden dunes.
